St James Church High Wych

Design

This delightful and unusual small Victorian church was designed by C.E. Pritchett and consecrated in 1861. It is situated next to its junior/ infant C of E school – High Wych School which was built at the same time. St. James has several interesting features - a round bell turret with a blue 'Bennet' clock, a richly decorated apse and a two-manual 'Father Willis' organ.

Atmosphere

As well as its intrinsic beauty, our church has a peaceful, intimate atmosphere and a welcoming congregation. The services are taken from 'Common Worship'. We are robed but informal, and very happy to welcome everyone including families with small children, who stay in the service or may prefer to be in the 'Sunday Club' in the Memorial Hall next door.

Activities

We are always pleased to welcome visitors to our services, our social activities, the churchyard and our church, which is open every day between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm. This picturesque Sawbridgeworth church and its churchyard make a beautiful venue for weddings, and we can offer couples a truly memorable Christian service on their special day.
